Location:Wood Canyon Ranch is located approximately thirty four miles south of Ozona, the county seat of Crockett County. The ranch lies along the west side of FM 2083.
Water:Two water wells furnish ample water for livestock and wild game. The upper well with windmill and concrete storage tank is located in a timber covered canyon near the northwest boundary of the ranch.
Hunting:White-tailed deer, wild turkey, quail and dove are the predominant species of wildlife on the property. There have been no reports of wild hogs on the ranch, only native javelina. Hunting is limited to one mature whitetail buck, one management buck per hunter, two whitetail doe per hunter and two turkey toms.
On some spring mornings, the sounds of a new day often begin with an old gobbler calling his flock together up the canyons. This morning wake-up call is usually followed by rustling of other creatures stirring about searching for their morning provisions.
Terrain:The Wood Canyon Ranch lies along the northern edge of the Balcones Escarpment, a giant geologic upheaval that created the scenic Texas Hill Country. Wood Canyon is a long broad valley with deep fertile soil surrounded by timber covered mountains and long winding draws. The topography makes this property an ideal hunting and recreation ranch. The broad valley is covered with a good stand of native grasses, shin oak, juniper, persimmon, agarita, and other wooded plants native to the area. The mountain sides are covered with timber and provide good cover for wild game animals. The top country on both sides of the valley provides ample stool brush, forbs, and open grass land and is surrounded by large neighboring ranches.
